about

A collection of field recordings made in the guerrilla-controlled zone in Chalatenango, El Salvador, at the height of the Salvadoran civil war in 1984. These songs were performed by a guitarist with the revolutionary guerillas forces, the FMLN, known only by the nickname 'Segovia'.

A rarely heard selection of folk songs, cumbia, and ranchero music with lyrics adapted to support the revolutionary struggle. These songs also form the sound track to the documentary 'The Past is Not History', which can be viewed here: vimeo.com/133053653

These recordings are now held in the Museum of Historical Memory in Arcatao, Chalatenango, a grass-roots museum built by local peasant farmers to tell the story of their experiences of the war.

All proceeds from the sale of these recordings go towards contributing to the museum's efforts, which include exhumations and proper burials of those who died during the war without a grave, the building of a sanctuary to house these remains, and further development of the museum and it's activities to support war survivors.
